The increased number of newly diagnosed HIV cases among young males who have sex with men (MSM) are due to the epic behavioral activities of the young African American males who have sex with men. However, identifying health disparities, stigmas and barriers, and prevention interventions can help alleviate HIV among young African American males who have sex with men. Strategies to Alleviate HIV Among Young African American Males (MSM) To decrease or alleviate the HIV epidemic among young African American (MSM) there are three strategies that should be implemented among this population of young men. First, the health disparities among this population should be identified. Secondly, HIV stigmas and barriers that prevent young African†¦show more content†¦This position of the Black Church is a faith-based stigma that causes a barrier for this population, preventing them from seeking preventive interventions and early treatment. Unfortunately, young African American (MSM) are more likely than any other ethnic group to experience barriers to health care, such as getting appointments at private clinics, receiving outpatient health care, and antiretroviral care. HIV Preventions and Interventions The implementation of HIV prevention strategies such as Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a method in which individuals who practice risky behavior take a pill that will prevent them from becoming infected with HIV. Storytelling and new media activities is used to spark the interest of this population. â€Å"For example, Keep it Up! an interactive online program focused on healthy sexuality, relationships, and preventing HIV was recently found to be feasible and acceptable among diverse YMSM† (Macapagal, Birkett, Janulis, Garofalo, Mustunski, 2017). Subsequently, there was an increase of condom use by the young men who participated in this program.
